Hop on the Bus with Sackatoga
Sackatoga Stable first captured the national spotlight when Jack Knowlton and his partners arrived at Churchill Downs in a yellow school bus to watch Funny Cide win the Kentucky Derby. Funny Cide remains the only New York-bred to capture the Run for the Roses.
The bus didn’t stop there. It carried Sackatoga through the rest of his Triple Crown run and rolled again for Tiz the Law in 2020.

- Race Day Meetups — Gather at the track to cheer on our horses and connect with fellow partners.
- Post-Race Gatherings — From Siro’s in Saratoga to meetups across the country, the day doesn’t end at the finish line.
- Annual Gatherings — Twice a year, partners come together in New York and Florida for a day at the races that includes stable updates, open Q&A sessions, and time together.
- Group Travel — Curated trips to marquee race meets and destinations, with all the logistics handled by Sackatoga, so partners can focus on enjoying the experience.
- Group Events — From laid-back gatherings like tiki boat excursions on Saratoga Lake to “Sackatoga Day” at the Big Red Spring Tent, our events bring partners together to relax, connect, and enjoy the experience beyond the racetrack.
- Charitable Events — Sackatoga also brings partners together in support of the sport and its community, from our annual party benefiting Old Friends at Cabin Creek to group participation in events like Jockey Karaoke supporting the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund.

Investment
Sackatoga Stable provides a turnkey way for people to experience the thrill of thoroughbred horse ownership without breaking the bank or having to deal with accounting headaches.
- Average share price is between $5,000 – $10,000 for a 2-4% stake, which is enough to qualify for licensing privileges.
- A unique LLC is created for each horse. In some instances, two horses will be bundled under one LLC.
- Initial capital investment for yearlings covers the purchase price and expenses through the end of the horse’s 2-year-old year.
- Should expenses exceed purse earnings and hit a predetermined threshold, a capital call will be issued.
- K-1s are provided annually for each LLC in which an owner has a stake.
Our Ownership Strategy (In Plain English)
- Yearlings first. – Annual buys at Saratoga (Fasig‑Tipton), where we found Tiz the Law, and other prominent yearling sales throughout the year. We prioritize the equine athletes that fit our program and offer value.
- 2‑Year‑Olds in Training (selective). – We’ll target a ready‑made juvenile when the fit and price are right—especially for NY Stallion Series-eligible horses. We have had success with these targeted purchases, including winning the lucrative Rick Violette Stakes.
- Private purchases (infrequent). – We only move when the value and fit are undeniable—think Funny Cide.
- Not a claiming syndicate. – Our approach is to buy early, bring them along the right way, and set them up for long-term success.
